caesar was homecoming king and prom king last year and everyone expects him to win again but then brutus steals so many of his votes thanks to cassius’ campaign so marc antony wins
brutus is the ralph nader of prom democracy
at the last minute he tries to go around and tell everyone not to vote for him, but he still splits the vote
“oh god” he whispers to himself as antony’s prom speech ’yolo’ count nears 20, “what have i done”
He feels something tugging at his sleeve, very insistently. Cassius has been trying to subtly get his attention for the last minute or so, to no avail. Noticing him there, Brutus turns and says ‘Ah, Cassius!’ rather loudly. Cassius grabs Brutus and forcibly drags him into a corner away from the crowd, vexed at how difficult it is to play sneaky with Brutus. Riding upon Brutus’ disgust at the yolo speech, he tries to convince Brutus to stage an anti-prom-king speech (he and casca have a mic and some crappy speakers set up). It’s a hard sell. Why doesn’t Cassius just give the speech himself? Well, he would, only it would hardly make any impact seeing as most of the people present don’t even know he exists. Perhaps they could give the speech together?
Through negotiations Cassius is thinking `Well, even if if he doesn’t make up his mind in time to do anything about it, at least I will have have gotten Brutus alone with me in a dark corner. That’s … some kind of progress, right?’
